I am a fourth generation Arizonan. My family worked in Arizona's mining, agricultural and technology industries and in government employment. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies from Arizona State University in 1992 and a Juris Doctor from the Arizona State University College of Law in 1995. I was a Willard Pedrick Scholar at ASU, a member of the College of Law Clinic, a recipient of the Community Foundation Scholarship and a law clerk at a large, prestigious law firm. I also served as a law clerk for a Superior Court judge.
I have life experiences that provide for a different perspective. My parents were divorced when I was young. I had a child in high school (who is now a lovely and talented college student) and was a single parent during college and law school. I have been married and divorced, and have strong relationships with my children and stepchildren. Real life has taught me just as much as law school.
I am an experienced matrimonial trial lawyer who has represented hundreds of individuals in simple and complex family law litigation in the trial and appellate courts of Arizona. I have also been asked to provide mediation and arbitration services by referral from the Court and other attorneys. A list of representative cases is available upon request.
I am a Judge Pro Tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Court and a member of the State Bar of Arizona Family Law Practice and Procedure Committee. I am a council member of the Ahwatukee Assembly of God. I play guitar in my spare time, spend time with my children and am interested in politics and blogging.
As your lawyer, I will handle your case with professionalism and discretion. I thought know a little about me before our first meeting might help you feel more comfortable.
Sincerely,
Family Law Attorney Michael J. Shew
